Our Dog Dock Diving Curriculum

Our curriculum is carefully crafted to guide your dog through every stage of dock diving mastery, from the initial leap off the ramp to the final, graceful dive into the water.

Mastering the Leap

The first lesson is all about ensuring your dog can confidently jump off the ramp, infusing each leap with energy and precision. We teach dogs to focus not only on diving but also on catching a toy and landing in the water with it securely in their mouth. We begin with the basics, gradually raising the toy higher to encourage your dog to dive upwards and outwards. Our method involves a mix of proper and playful tosses to build both confidence and drive in your dog.

Building Toy Drive and Handler Interaction

The next lesson emphasizes developing a strong play dynamic between the handler and the dog. It’s all about fun at this stage, building your dog’s toy drive without the pressure of perfect throwing mechanics. We teach dogs to retrieve the toy and return it to the handler, reinforcing trust and cooperation.

Increasing Toy Drive and Teaching Proper Mechanics

As your dog becomes more comfortable with the idea of jumping off the dock, we introduce strategies to heighten their toy drive. Using a controlled setting, we let frustration build up before releasing the dog to chase after the toy. This not only boosts their eagerness but also aids in teaching proper jumping mechanics. We gradually move the toy further down the dock, ensuring your dog learns to focus on catching the toy mid-air, mastering the perfect jump.

DOCK DIVING FOUNDATION CLASS

  • Introduction to Dock Diving

  • Classes run 1-hour a week for 4-weeks.

  • Classes are offered from April through October, weather permitting.

  • All dogs, big & small, are welcome.

$200.00 + HST

Handler & Dog Requirements

  • Handler/client must have basic obedience & control of dog (dog cannot be dragging the handler around)

  • Dog must know how to swim and be comfortable in the water.

  • Hander must be comfortable and willing to go into the water to help with dog having an emergency.

DOCK DIVING PRIVATE LESSONS

  • Lessons are 1 on 1 with the trainer

  • Each lesson is 30-minutes in length

  • Classes are offered from April through October, weather permitting.

  • All dogs, big & small, are welcome.

$75.00 + HST

Handler & Dog Requirements

  • Handler/client must have basic obedience & control of dog (dog cannot be dragging the handler around)
